Traveline TXT

Each bus stop has a code (NaPTAN code) that in most areas can be sent in a txt message to one of the designated phone numbers. The reply txt gives a list of the next departures from the bus stop.

Charges

The text request to Traveline is at the users normal text charge. In some areas the reply will be free of charge, paid for by the local authority or transport operator. In most areas the reply will cost 25p.

PhonepayPlus, the phone-paid services regulator is the organisation which has responsibility for the day to day regulation of premium telephone services including txt.

The new PhonePayPlus code of conduct, which has now come into effect, includes several requirements which Traveline is considering. With the exception of bus stop flags, which PhonePayPlus have in the past noted are for information and not promotion, where the service is charged to the user then that and the charging rates must be clearly visible to the customer. Monitoring facilities

NaPTAN codes (the SMS bus stop numbers) can be found on the maps in Transport Direct and, in South East England on Google maps.

NaPTAN codes have three letter prefixes. These are the prefix codes The remainder of the code is constructed according to these rules. Scotland uses the numeric equivalent of these codes.
